Bagi para pengguna linux, sepertinya sudah biasa dengan dual boot. Jarang pengguna linux yang hanya menginstall linux di PC mereka. Biasanya saat komputer berjalan pertama kali, terdapat pilihan untuk memilih sistem operasi. Bagian ini disebut dengan boot loader.

Beberapa distro linux biasanya memiliki boot loadernya sendiri. Salah satu yang sering digunakan adalah GRUB. Banyak distro besar yang menggunakan grub secara default, misalnya saja ubuntu, mint, mandriva, fedora, dll.

Secara default penampilan grub seperti gambar di samping. hanya ada beberapa pilihan system operasi yang terinstall di komputer. tampilanya pun hanya berupa text base. Untuk beberapa distro misalnya mint, tampilan sedikit lebih bagus karena terdapat background yang berwarna. namun tetap saja berbasis text.
